Well Technicaly the USSR fell in 1992, the end of the cold war brought the end of the soviet union. Back then of course it was a big deal, Russia slid into almost sudden seclusion and almost hasn't been heard from since.
I do have a friend that works in russia half the year, and apparently they are putting a little more effort into their space program and trying to assist China with theirs as well. They also chose to go to war with Georgia again which was unexpected. I still feel that Russia has the Guns, the military, the numbers, and the will at times to be a threat. They also own a considerable part of the US's national debt, which pretty much means they own a bif chunk of america, along with China and Japan. 2/3 of those make me real nervous.
A word about socialism, many people seem to fear or hatye socialism when it really isn't such a bad thing, there are many nations in the world where socialism works quite well. I bring up Star Trek again, the society of Star Trek is largely socialist and it works well. However, that is a nearly perfect world, there are plenty of things in the US that would benefit from socialization, particularly health care. The big problem with socialism is when the government doesn't share the same interests as it's people, or the government is just corrupt.
It's funny how most people are like "I want the government to take care of me." but the minute you bring up socialism they denounce it. I don't know about you guys out there but I am getting a little tired of living in a society where wealth is distributed so unevenly that only the top portion of the population can live well, and the rest of us have to drown in destitution. From what I can understand the plan is to socialize health care in the US, I am curious to see how this will go.
I would like to go on record as saying that I hope Obama taxes huge companies and filthy evil corporations, and fucking scumbag rich businessmen until it hurts. A ratio is a ratio, if 15% of your anual income is $20,000,000 then that is just to damn bad, pay your taxes we need them right now. We should all pay our taxes and not complain to much if we want to get out of this situation.
People worry about taxes when it comes to socialized health care for example. I would suggest everyone look into countries like france and england. They have great free healthcare systems and the people don't seem to be drowning in taxes, in fact they seem to be living pretty well.
Being that ti is uncool to post in comment on someone elses blog I am going to stop that here.
I am making a scrafice, I have a $600 return that's owed to me for my 2006 taxes, I am officially stating that I am going to let the government keep that, I have no intention of claiming that at this point. This seems to be the best sacrafice towards the cause I can make at this point.
