Great travel blog, Tom. I had heard of the tea shop scam years ago, but have not experienced that particular one myself. I got pickpocketed in Morocco, first time in much travel that had happened (lost $11 in local currency). I let someone get a little too close to me ... hard to be vigilant 100% of the time.
I assume you can get good Chinese food there.
